Acupressure Points

Acupressure massage is practiced by many Chinese as a way to promote health, beauty and longevity. Tui na massage or Chinese bodywork is an important part of our practice at Whole Family Health, and is incorporated into most treatments for musculoskeletal problems. Acupressure can often be as effective as needles, especially if it is done consistently over a longer period of time.

Generally speaking, you should apply firm pressure to acupressure points for 3-5 minutes per point. Most acupuncture points are bilateral, so apply pressure to one side of the body first and then switch to the other side.

For further reading I suggest the following book:

Acupressure’s Potent Points: A Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments by Michael Reed Gach. This book gives clear descriptions to help you successfully locate acupoints, and easy to follow protocols on how to use these points to help with everything from arthritis to earaches to hangovers.
