Anxiety and Insomnia

The acupuncture point youngquan (“gushing spring”) is the lowest point on the body and is located on the kidney channel.  In qigong practice, the energy of the earth is absorbed through this point.  Yongquan promotes a feeling of calm and rootedness.  It is used widely in China as a self-care measure for insomnia.  It also works very well for anyone prone to anxiety, especially anxiety that begins later in the evening.

Try adding the following to your nighttime routine, especially on nights when you are stressed.  Soak your feet in a tub of warm water for 10 minutes shortly before bed.  Massage yongquan for three to five minutes on each foot.  To locate yongquan, flex your foot and feel for the deepest depression on the bottom of your foot.  Use the drawing below as a guide.
